His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned the Galaxy Backbone (GBB) National Tier IV Data Center situated in the commercial city of Kano, North-West Nigeria.
He was accompanied by the Chief Host, the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami and the Managing Director Galaxy Backbone Limited, Prof. Muhammad Bello Abubakar.
The Tier IV Data Center has been designed, built to support private businesses and public sector organisations. The new digital infrastructure in Kano will serve as a first level backup to the GBB Tier III Data Center in Abuja. It will also support business continuity services that would support the business sustainability of organisations.
The Chief Host, Prof Pantami who conducted the President around this state-of-the-art Digital Services Infrastructure which has been built to meet the international standards that govern the setup of Tier IV Datacenters globally. The Minister stated that this Tier IV Datacenter is the highest form of Datacenter in the world at this moment and has been built by a Federal Government owned Agency. In his words; “The President came here today to launch the project and it is one of the great achievements of his administration in ICT. This Tier IV Data Center is established under Galaxy Backbone Limited, which is the Federal Government owned agency,” he said
The Managing Director of GBB, Prof Muhammad Abubakar, also threw more light on this Infrastructure; “This Tier IV Data Centre here in Kano will offer an enabling environment for ease of doing business, which will invariably, boost Nigeria’s GDP”. This GBB National Tier IV Datacenter will enhance the security of Data in Nigeria and create an enabling environment that will boost business opportunities and job creation, while strengthening Nigeria’s Digital Economy.
