Abdul-Malik Suleiman, PhD, fondly called Malik, has over two decades of professional experience helping organizations develop, implement, and operate sustainable technology solutions that enhance growth and productivity.
Malik began his career in technology with Nigerian Telecommunications Ltd. (NITEL), now nTEL, after teaching and serving as an Assistant Lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi. He served as IP Manager for the South Atlantic 3/West Africa Submarine Cable (SAT-3/WASC) and was part of the pioneering team that promoted undersea cable operations in Nigeria. His accomplishments at NITEL and his desire to make a greater impact in the technology space led him to Galaxy Backbone, where he joined as Technical Manager, responsible for developing and implementing the 1-GOV.net e-government infrastructure platform.
Malik has held several senior roles at Galaxy Backbone, including Solutions Architect, Implementation Manager, Integration Manager, and Service Owner. In these roles, he expanded and deepened Galaxy’s service portfolio for customers and stakeholders across the public and private sectors. His success and growing understanding of the nexus between business and technology services led to his appointment as Group Head of Business Development. Six years later, he was appointed as the pioneer Group Head of the Regional Offices, responsible for expanding Galaxy’s nationwide reach. He also brought his depth of experience and clear understanding of technology and customer needs to Galaxy’s Special Projects Department, where he helped define the company’s future. In this role, all nation-impacting projects became his primary responsibility.
He briefly served as acting MD/CEO of Galaxy Backbone from December 2023 to February 2024.
Malik is currently the pioneer General Manager of Strategic Partnerships, a role that clearly defines Galaxy’s roadmap as a sustainable, technology-focused public-sector company.
Malik is a Fellow of the Nigerian Computer Society (FNCS), a Chartered Information Technology Practitioner, and a Member of the Computer Professionals Registration Council (CPN) of Nigeria.
He is an alumnus of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi; Nasarawa State University (NSU), Keffi; and Bayero University, Kano, where he earned a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science, a Master of Science in Computer Science, a Master of Science in Cybersecurity, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics, and a Professional Certificate in Non-Interest Banking and Finance.
He is also an alumnus of Lagos Business School and INSEAD Business School, Fontainebleau, France, where he completed the Senior Management Program and the “Leading Organisations in Disruptive Times” programme, respectively.
A firm believer in continuous self-improvement, Malik has earned multiple ICT certifications and completed internationally recognised training in Management, Aviation, Telecommunications, Marketing, Sales, Innovation, Emerging Technologies, and Non-Interest Banking. He attended these trainings at leading global institutions including George Washington University (USA); Siemens Institute for Information and Communication (Germany); Japan Telecommunications Engineering Institute (Tokyo); Indian Institute of Technology; CasaAero (Morocco); Capitol (Dubai, UAE); British Telecommunications Training Institute (Yarnfield Stone, UK); Huawei and ZTE Universities (Shenzhen and Hangzhou, China), as well as in Rome, Italy, among others.
His soft skills include wealth creation, team-building, leadership, mentoring, and effective communication. Malik promotes integrity, accountability, merit, and diversity in the workplace.
He also shares his expertise and experience in his free time through various consortia and technical working groups.
Malik is married with children and enjoys greenfield horse racing.
