Abuja, Nigeria – The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB), Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, today reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s digital sovereignty while delivering a goodwill message at the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative stakeholder engagement session hosted by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). 
Describing the initiative as “a bold and necessary step toward a digitally sovereign Nigeria,” Prof. Adeyanju noted that the sovereign cloud represents more than a technological deployment; it signals Nigeria’s resolve to maintain control over its data, secure critical digital assets, and shape its future in the Fourth Industrial Revolution on its own terms.
“For nearly two decades, Galaxy Backbone has served as the digital backbone of the Federal Government, providing connectivity, hosting, and shared services across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. While we have built infrastructure and championed government-wide digital transformation, sovereignty goes beyond hardware; it is about control of outcomes and ensuring that citizens’ data is protected by Nigerian laws and leveraged for national prosperity,” he stated.
Prof. Adeyanju highlighted that Galaxy Backbone’s existing platforms, including the 1Government Cloud and GovMail, have already laid the foundation for a secure, scalable, and locally hosted government digital ecosystem. He emphasized that the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative further strengthens this framework by expanding capacity and reinforcing resilience across the public sector.
Affirming Galaxy Backbone’s role as a strategic partner, the GBB CEO pledged the organisation’s full technical and institutional support toward the initiative’s success, spanning infrastructure integration, capacity building, policy implementation, and service adoption.
He also called for collaboration across the ecosystem, stressing that the initiative should inspire convergence rather than competition among cloud service providers. “When institutions align around a shared national interest, the outcome is a more secure, accessible, and trusted digital government that serves all Nigerians,” he added.
The stakeholder engagement brought together government leaders, technology experts, and industry stakeholders to advance conversations on building a sovereign, secure, and resilient cloud environment capable of supporting critical national workloads.
