In line with ensuring that Nigeria is transformed into a Digital nation, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) under the leadership of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, has approved that Galaxy Backbone carry out the upgrade of ICT Infrastructure to boost the provision of Local Area Network (LAN) and other digital services to Federal Government Ministries, Departments & Agencies. This approval was disclosed on September 2, at the weekly FEC meeting.
This approval was realized through the efforts of the Honourable Minister of Communications & Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami in his strides to make Nigeria a digital nation in the near future.
Galaxy Backbone (GBB), an agency under the Federal Ministry of Communications & Digital Economy, is the digital, network & shared services provider to the government. GBB has over the past 10 years provided connectivity and network services to government institutions and has generally met the connectivity and digital services needs of these institutions. With this approval by FEC, GBB’s quality of service will be greatly improved and the challenges around Local Area Network (LAN) which have for too long constituted a major impediment to e-governance and digital transformation will now be dealt with.
